In this eye-opening video, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspector arrives on a construction site and issues a warning just in time- as a cave-in the size of a small car occurs just seconds after a worker jumps to safety.
It is clear proof of why we need workplace safety regulations and worker protections, no matter how hard the Republicans and their corporate overlords work to roll them back. One of the marks of a civilized nation is the way our workers are treated and cared for- and 4,585 American workers died on the job last year, which is far too many. Labor Secretary Perez remarks that “No one should have to sacrifice their life for their livelihood, because a nation built on the dignity of work must provide safe working conditions for its people.” He is absolutely right. Our workers deserve so much better.
