Dems Demand Republicans Reimburse Taxpayers $4.5 Million For Benghazi "Investigation"

With the outpouring of evidence that has revealed the true intent behind the House Benghazi committee, it’s time for some retribution. The outrageous misuse of government time and taxpayer funds on a partisan witch-hunt has prompted Senate Democrats to call for the committee’s disbandment – and the reimbursement of the $4.7 million they squandered.

“Due to the political nature of the [Benghazi] committee, we believe it is inappropriate that a reported 4.7 million taxpayer dollars were used to finance its operations and that the RNC subsequently orchestrated numerous fundraising opportunities in its wake. Therefore, we urge the RNC to fully reimburse the U.S. taxpayer and cease all fundraising opportunities linked to the Select Committee” writes Harry Reid, joined by other leading Democrats like Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WASH).

They have also demanded that the committee stop using their smear committee to raise money for their personal campaign war-chests. The RNC, of course, has no shame and responded quite rudely to the legitimate demands of the Senate Democrats: “Harry Reid’s pathetic attempt to inject politics into the final, definitive account of the 9/11 terrorist attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans dishonors their memory and has no basis in reality,” said RNC National Press Secretary Allison Moore. “This cheap political stunt from disgruntled members of the minority party is nothing more than an in-kind contribution to the Clinton campaign paid for with taxpayer dollars.”

Despite the aggressive response from the Republican National Committee, they don’t have any legs to stand on. Two leading House members have admitted that the primary objective of the committee is to discredit former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Their decades-old refusal to open an investigation into George W. Bush’s atrocious negligence and refusal to respond to the threat of a terrorist attack on September 11th, 2001, even as new evidence emerge showing that he was much more aware of the threat than we previously knew, simply proves their partisan hypocrisy.

Disband this committee. Reimburse the taxpayers our money. Enough of these petty political games. It’s far past time we stopped this absurd infighting and turned our attention to the real issues facing this country. If the GOP doesn’t want to participate, we’ll do it without them.
