Ted Cruz’s Ex-Classmate: He Said “My Mom Was Going To Hell And Was A Whore” For Having An Abortion

If there’s one thing that people agree on about Republican presidential candidate and religious extremist Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), it’s that he is almost universally despised. His own colleagues in the Senate refer to him as a “wacko bird” and a “jackass;” his work on the George W. Bush election campaign failed to get him a position in the administration because “I just don’t like the guy.”

The vitriol that Ted Cruz evokes in people goes back a long way. His college roommate declared that he was a “a huge assh*le, a nightmare of a human being,” and that “I would rather have anybody else be the president of the United States. Anyone. I would rather pick somebody from the phone book.” Tales of self-righteous arrogance and distasteful rudeness have dogged him for years; when asked to describe him, his classmates used the words “abrasive,” “intense,” “strident,” “crank,” and “arrogant.”

One story is particularly telling; Mikaela Beardsley, who went to school with Cruz at Princeton, recounts how in a discussion with Cruz, she told him how her mother had an abortion because their family couldn’t support another child: “I remember telling him [that] my mother had two children, they really couldn’t afford to have another child, they really would have struggled. And it was a very difficult, painful decision for my mother.”

Cruz became “vicious” and told her “that my mother was going to hell and was a whore.”

All of these stories paint a picture of a vile man uniquely unfit to lead anything, let alone a global superpower. His actions in Congress only confirm these assessments about his despicable character; he holds no principles except his own ambitions and his personal agenda, as his disgusting hypocrisy and a callous lack of empathy for others shows. For example, when news of the crisis in Flint became public, Cruz rushed to help hand out water – but only to pro-life “pregnancy crisis centers” that convince women to not have abortions with outright lies. He may have been able to ride a wave of evangelical support to a win in Iowa, but his repulsive personality will ultimately doom his selfish ambitions.

You can find an amusing list of all the things that politicians have to say about Ted Cruz here.
