Treasonous Republicans Emerge From Meeting: No Hearing For Obama’s SCOTUS Pick
The level of unprecedented obstructionism in the Republican-controlled Congress has reached alarming new heights. The Senate returned to session for the first since Justice Antonin Scalia passed away; their first move was to hold a closed-doors meeting today following which Senator Mitch McConnell and a number of other “key” Senators announced that they will violate the Constitution and refuse to even hold a hearing to consider President Obama’s nominee to fill the vacancy on the highest court of the land.
“We believe the American people need to decide who is going to make this appointment rather than a lame duck president” said Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX). Failed presidential candidate Lindsey Graham (R-SC) stated that “there’s no use starting a process that’s not going to go anywhere and we are going to let the next president decide,” somehow failing to note that it’s his own party’s fault that the process “wouldn’t go anywhere.”
“Presidents have a right to nominate just as the Senate has its constitutional right to provide or withhold consent. In this case, the Senate will withhold it. The Senate will appropriately revisit the matter after the American people finish making in November the decision they’ve already started making today” said lead obstructionist and House Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
The move is a shocking and unprecedented show of partisanship. It marks the lowest point that the Republican Party has ever sunk to; at this point, they are refusing to fulfill the most very basic functions of government and would clearly rather see our political establishment collapse and burn around them before they allow President Obama to uphold his Constitutional duty. McConnell’s Senate has abandoned any pretense at governance over the past four years; this refusal amounts to treason, a violation of their oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States that those foul hypocrites claim to love so much.
They constantly smear one of the most successful Presidents in American history for imaginary violations of that sacred document while the Republican Party tramples over it in their battle against social and economic progress in our nation. We must make them pay for their crimes when we go to the polls next year; if we ever want to see anything resembling a functioning government again, we need vote these cowards and liars out of office and replace them with people who will actually do their damned jobs.
UPDATE: the traitor Senators have even signed a letter proclaiming their refusal to hold a hearing until January 20th, 2017. Three of those men had no problem confirming Justice Kennedy during an election year – Grassely, Hatch, Graham.
