Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, energized by last night’s string of primary victories, apparently decided that he was safe enough to give up the absurd facade that he was going to begin acting “presidential” and took some vicious cheap shots at his rival, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. At a moment when he could have made an concentrated effort to silence his orchestra of critics, he instead descended to the level of internet comment sections by immediately bringing up the gender of a person who has more than forty years of public service under her belt:
“The only card she has is the woman’s card. She’s got nothing else going on. And frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she’d get 5 percent of the vote. The only thing she’s got going is the women’s vote. And the beautiful thing is that women don’t like her.”
Actually, Mr. Trump, the truth is that women hate you. Seven in ten American women have an unfavorable opinion of the abrasive business tycoon. If you needed any more proof, just look at the way that Mary Pat Christie, wife of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, reacts when he’s making those statements. The look of horror and disgust on her face is absolutely priceless.
