Insanity: Trump Accuses Cruz’s Dad of Helping Assassinate JFK, Cruz Goes Ballistic

The Republican race just took another ridiculous turn for the worst, as The Miami Herald just reported presidential frontrunner Donald Trump’s response to a National Enquirer story in which the disgraced tabloid said that it determined that a man standing next to President John F Kennedy’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald who was never identified in the Warren Commission investigation of President Kennedy’s assassination (shown in 1963 photograph taken outside the International Trade Mart in New Orleans) – is in fact Rafael B Cruz, Senator Ted Cruz’s father.

In what can only be described as another bizarre over the top Donald Trump moment, today he accused Rafael Cruz of standing alongside Oswald (months before Oswald shot and killed Kennedy) – implying perhaps some nefarious participation on Cruz senior’s part in Kennedy’s assassination. During a Fox News phone interview, Trump started out attempting to rebuke Cruz senior’s use of the pulpit to draw evangelicals into his son’s camp. Trump proceeded to go off on a tangent channeling the National Enquirer story about Cruz’s father standing with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Kennedy being shot:

“His father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald’s being — you know, shot. I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous. What is this, right prior to his being shot, and nobody even brings it up. They don’t even talk about that. That was reported, and nobody talks about it.”

“I mean, what was he doing — what was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death? Before the shooting?” Trump continued. “It’s horrible.”

Not unexpectedly, a Cruz campaign spokesperson pointed out numerous flaws in the Enquirer story calling it “another garbage story in a tabloid full of garbage.” Senator Cruz also snidely responded to Trump’s accusation: “Yes, my dad killed JFK, he is secretly Elvis, and Jimmy Hoffa is buried in his backyard.”

As Politico reported, Trump was asked a question during the phone interview with Fox about what he thought regarding Rafael Cruz, who happens to be a Christian preacher, preaching that it is his son who is the presidential candidate that stands with God:

“I implore, I exhort every member of the body of Christ to vote according to the word of God and vote for the candidate that stands on the word of God and on the Constitution of the United States of America…And I am convinced that man is my son, Ted Cruz. The alternative could be the destruction of America.”

Responding to Cruz’s claim Trump said “I think it’s a disgrace that he’s allowed to do it. I think it’s a disgrace that he’s allowed to say it.”  Of course, Trump then went on touting his support from Jerry Falwell Jr. and other evangelical leaders.

“You look at so many of the ministers that are backing me, and they’re backing me more so than they’re backing Cruz, and I’m winning the evangelical vote…And just — and so many people are angry about it. And the evangelicals are angry about it, the way he does that.”

“But I think it’s horrible…I think it’s absolutely horrible that a man can go and do that, what he’s saying there.”

In an attempt at journalistic integrity, the Enquirer claimed; “In this instance, we believe American voters have a right to know the truth about the Cruz family.”  However, as the Miami Herald was clear to point out, the Enquirer is the source for the recent story about Ted Cruz’s alleged mistresses and his supposed connection with the DC Madam. It also should not be lost that Trump has been endorsed for president by the Enquirer.

In Trump’s world, it is of course not a horrible thing to go off on another tirade implying Cruz senior might have somehow been involved in the assassination of President Kennedy.
