Hidden Cam: A 13-Year-Old Tried To Buy Porn, Beer & A Gun. Guess Which One He Got… (VIDEO)

In the wake of the Pulse shooting, national attention has rightly been focused on how easy it is to acquire deadly firearms in America. To emphasize just how lax our gun laws truly are, HBO ran an episode of Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel that featured a 13 year old boy attempting buy common things that have age restrictions – porn, lottery tickets, alcohol, cigarettes, and a .22 caliber rifle. Can you guess which one he succeeded in purchasing?

That’s right – the rifle. It is astounding that after this aired there was no push to change regulations at gun shows, which are the least-regulated form of firearm sales – the boy was able to purchase a rifle with no I.D. and no background check. The culture of available guns has become so deeply entrenched that watching a 13 year old buy a gun functions as comedy; a scene that should have shocked and horrified was shrugged off as just a funny fact of life in America. American does not have to be like this; we have the power to elect officials who will enact sensible gun safety laws and reform a broken system that leads to the tremendous level of American violence, which vastly outstrips that of all other developed countries.

When did we decide that lottery tickets pose a greater to teenagers than firearms? If buying a gun is so easy a 13 year old can do it, it is unsurprising that individuals who decide to shoot up elementary schools and gay nightclubs are always well-armed. Guns are dangerous weapons, and as such should only ever be in the hands of well-vetted, responsible citizens who have a good reason for owning one. We have to end the era of permissive gun laws, that has allowed firearms to proliferate in our communities and has led to an almost unfathomable amount of gun violence.
