Republicans Just Announced They’re Going To CONTINUE Their Pathetic Benghazi Investigation

On Tuesday, the Republican House Benghazi Committee released an 800 page report clearly demonstrating that there is no evidence that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton bears any blame for the tragic attack on the American embassy in Benghazi, Libya – so of course they came to the conclusion that their work is not done. The investigation is already one of the longest in American history and has spent a record $7 million of taxpayer money in a partisan witch hunt devoid of supporting evidence, and is apparently not over.

Now, the Committee, led by Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC), has emphasized that the released report is only “provisional” and can be confirmed or denied as a final version on July 8. Meanwhile, the Committee is looking into interviewing a source who was stationed with Air Force in Europe during the attack who allegedly used the hashtag #ifyouvoteforhillaryyouarebeyondstupid, and wrote that the deaths are attributable to, “a corrupt government with disregard to human life, that looks at us as tools on the physical side of their political battles.”

The report found that the diplomatic compound could have been eligible for additional security prior to the attack, which Clinton publicly took responsibility for in the immediate aftermath, although the attack was completely unpredictable. The loss of American life can be ascribed to the Pentagon if blame must be assigned; the armed forces in the region were not equipped to reach Benghazi and provide adequate support in time, but seeing as the attack was conducted by over 200 members of Ansar al-Sharia armed with heavy weapons, rocket-propelled grenades and truck-mounted artillery, it’s difficult to see how any fast-response team could have properly responded in time, seeing as they were in Spain.

Congressman Peter Roskam (R-IL) said in the report that when President Obama was briefed on the situation in Benghazi as the attacks were being carried out, “he gave very clear directions: do everything possible to save Americans.” Then-Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta concurred with the President.

The House Committee spent $7 million just to mimic the results of seven prior investigations: There is no evidence of any professional misconduct or dereliction of duty. Furthermore, the State Department swiftly responded to the Benghazi attacks by significantly changing how all American embassies are secured. The New York Times reports that, “some diplomats now say [that heightened security] makes it difficult for them to carry out their responsibilities.”

The New Yorker alleges, based on rhetoric from Republican politicians since the Benghazi attacks, that the Committee’s continued crusade is simply a bone for conspiracy theorists and radio show hosts, fulfilling “the promise to its base that more hearings on Benghazi will expose lies, plots, and Huma Abedin-directed schemes.” Clinton’s close aide Abedin is a Muslim, which of course is further proof to racist right-wing paranoiacs that somehow the Obama administration is involved in a radical plot with the Muslim Brotherhood to commit treason or some other such ridiculous nonsense.

Democrats in Congress explain that they were excluded from being involved in the Committee’s report, adding to the case that the Committee was an anti-Democrat, anti-Clinton project funded by the taxpayer. The frustrated Democrats wrote their own Benghazi report which they released on Monday, that, unsurprisingly, reached exactly the same conclusion as the Republican report.

At this point, facts should be clear; however the Committee, refuses to admit that the anti-Clinton conspiracies it has stoked for years are baseless. Clinton is the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, almost certainly running against Republican Donald Trump. Trump’s shocking disapproval ratings and inability to act, speak, or present himself in a remotely presidential way has created mass desperation in the Republican party. Politicians refuse to relinquish any outlandish conspiracies that might take an edge off of Clinton’s presidential bid.

As the GOP, which brands itself as the party of fiscal reesponsibility, continues to waste taxpayer money on a fruitless partisan scheme, it will solidify its new image as “the party of no.” Republicans have turned from policy to obstructionism; what policies they have often amount to undoing everything Obama has done – a special variation of obstruction. As Clinton said on Tuesday regarding Benghazi, it is time to “move on.”
