Republicans Panicking And Begging For Money As Convention Donors Flee
The Republican National Convention is short of money, just days before its due to kick off. Dozens of companies have pulled out in protest of presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump and his divisive ethnonationalist rabble-rousing, and the GOP bigwigs are forced to turn to their oligarch benefactors in order to pay for the event that the arduous primary season has been leading up to.
In a letter that found its way into the hands of POLITICO, the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee is begging hardline pro-Israeli billionaire Sheldon Adelson to make up for $8.1 million in losses after pledged donors are backed out in light of Trump’s perpetual shenanigans.
“Over the past couple months, negative publicity around our potential nominee resulted in a considerable number of pledges backing out from their commitments” reads the letter. “We would greatly appreciate if you would consider a $6,000,000 contribution to the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee to help us cross the finish line. Your support will allow our community to meet its obligation to the RNC, and will ensure our Republican nominee has the best possible platform to lay out his conservative case for our nation. Thank you for your consideration and please let us know if you need any additional information.”=
Everyone from the Koch brothers to FedEx, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Apple, and British Petroleum have all reneged on their promised donations. It just goes to show how badly Trump’s platform of toxic white supremacy and proto-fascism is hurting the GOP – and should give us all hope for this coming November.
