JUST IN: House Dems Demand Criminal Probe Of Trump’s Bribes To Florida Attorney General
Congressional Democrats just demanded that U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch launch a criminal investigation into the potentially illegal donations that Republican nominee Donald J. Trump gave to Florida’s Republican Attorney General, Pam Bondi, in exchange for her dropping the state’s investigation into the greedy real estate mogul’s Trump University, which turned out to be nothing but a scam that defrauded its customers.
“These payments may have influenced Mrs. Bondi’s official decision not to participate in litigation against Mr. Trump. This fact pattern indicates that these payments may have influenced Mrs. Bondi’s official decision not to participate in litigation against Mr. Trump. A number of criminal statutes would appear to be implicated by this course of conduct” said the letter from Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) and the rest of the House Judiciary Committee.
While acknowledging that Trump has paid a paltry $2,500 fine, the lawmakers didn’t think it appropriate the investigation stop there. “Our concerns extend beyond Mr. Trump’s violation of tax laws,” citing anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws to justify the investigation – but their ace in the hole is Trump’s own words.
“We also note that this allegation ― that Mr. Trump bribed a Florida state official to protect his business interests ― is consistent with Mr. Trump’s own statements about using money to influence politics” reads the letter, which refers to a Wall Street Journal interview in which Trump said “As a businessman and a very substantial donor to very important people, when you give, they do whatever the hell you want them to do.”
The House Judiciary Committee is joining a number of other watchdog agencies and liberal political action committees such as the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics and the Democratic Coalition Against Trump, both of which are demanding investigations from various federal agencies in regard to related but separate violations committed by the perpetually deceitful Trump. It’s astonishing to see how the media continues to obsess over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s health while the Republican nominee is getting away with flagrant corruption – but these Congressmen aren’t about to let this slip under the radar.
