A-List Celebrities Just Made An Anti-Trump Video That Will Make Your Day

A group of prominent Hollywood figures have released a moving video with an important message for all those threatened by a Trump presidency and the ascension of neo-fascism to Capitol Hill: “I Will Survive.” The celebrities, including such A-listers as Emma Stone, Matthew McConaughey, Natalie Portman, Taraji P. Henson, Amy Adams and Chris Pine, sing the 1979 Gloria Gaynor hit song in a new video produced by W magazine.

The magazine’s companion story provides a stirring explanation of the relevance of this message of survival and strength: “While the song has long been interpreted through a socially conscious lens, it’s the kind of anthem we need now more than ever with the inauguration bearing down on us. With an impending Donald Trump presidency, I will survive.”

Donald Trump, his associates, and the kowtowing Republican Congress have threatened the rights and liberty of every marginalized group in America. Their ideology is a perverse mix of corporatism, narcissism, and white nationalism that, if put into practice, would have devastating effects for everyone but the elite. In the face of such an existential threat, however, it is more important than ever that we as progressives and as targeted groups stand tall and fight back. And the message “I Will Survive” is the perfect anthem for that movement.
