Tonight Michael T. Flynn, the former 3-star general and now former national security advisor, resigned after information surfaced about his improper ties to Russia, including secretly discussing sanctions with the Russian Ambassador in Washington. Flynn also tried to cover up these conversations from White House staff, including the Vice President.
Flynn submitted a resignation letter to President Donald Trump that was seven paragraphs long, but one paragraph, in particular, provides a damning revelation about what Trump knew.
Unfortunately, because of the fast pace of events, I inadvertently briefed the Vice President Elect and others with incomplete information regarding my phone calls wih the Russian Ambassador. I have sincerely apologized to the President and the Vice President, and they have accepted my apology.
So clearly Flynn has been lying to Vice President Mike Pence and is now trying to blame his transgression on “incomplete information” about his own phone conversations. However, tellingly, Flynn did not mention misinforming Trump about these conversations. Trump would surely have quizzed Flynn on these phone calls when the revelations came to light, and Flynn would have lied to him as well.
But the fact that he has not apologized to the President for lying suggests otherwise.
If Trump never asked Flynn about these conversations then there is only one real conclusion that can be drawn: Trump already knew, because he has been ordering Flynn to make the calls. Flynn’s resignation letter is a tacit admission that the President of the United States has an inappropriate relationship with the Russian government.
The implications of this are enormous. This is possibly the largest tremor so far in an already crumbling administration. If it can be proven, without a shadow of a doubt, that Trump ordered these calls to be made then the case for impeachment will grow even stronger. This could turn out to be the shortest presidency in American history!
