Melania Just Said “Gift Of Nature” Will Heal Sick Children, Ignores Obamacare Repeal
President Donald Trump’s misguided hatred for Obamacare has been in the news a lot lately. One of his central campaign promises was to get rid of it, and Republicans were happy to oblige in their ideological crusade against things that benefit the majority of the American people.
Now First Lady Melania Trump has uttered her preference for Obamacare’s replacement. It’s not “greater access” as her husband promised. It’s not even a repeal. Nope, it’s “the gift of nature.”
The First Lady was visiting a children’s hospital in Washington D.C. yesterday where she visited sick kids and the doctors and nurses that try to make them better. One part of the visit saw her walk through a healing garden where she planted seeds with some of the children. There she commented:
I am a passionate believer in integrating and interpreting nature’s elements into our daily lives to create a warm, nurturing and positive environment. I believe that these same natural benefits can be instrumental to enhancing the health and well-being of all children.
While letting children, especially sick ones, have access to nature is great, what would be better would be to actually give them and their parents access to affordable health care. Trump’s plans to repeal Obamacare are likely to remove that health care from 13 million children across America. Melania spoke with patients and their families about “how the gift of nature and the beauties of the outdoors can contribute to the healing process.” You know what else contributes to the healing process? Insurance.
The First Lady’s visit came a day after her husband made a joint address to Congress in which a number of sick children sat alongside her. During the speech, Trump singled out a college student in attendance who suffers from Pompe disease and used her illness to make a dishonest attack on the Food and Drug Administration.
That’s right, Trump used a wheelchair-bound woman as an excuse to cut regulations and speed up drug development, which could be potentially dangerous and would only benefit pharmaceutical companies.
The timing of this visit is quite disgusting. Melania watched her husband proclaim the end to affordable healthcare and then went and visited sick children who no doubt benefitted from Obamacare merely a day later. The depths the Trumps will sink to for the cameras is loathsome and the sooner we get rid of this poor excuse for a president and his family the better.
