The Difference Between How Michelle & Melania Spent Women’s Day Says It ALL

Today is International Women’s Day, when people all over the world take to the streets to protest for their rights, engage with their community to uplift women, celebrate their accomplishments and teach young girls that there’s nothing they can’t do.

But not everyone celebrates the day in the same fashion, and the differences in the ways that former First Lady Michelle Obama and current First Lady Melania Trump marked International Women’s Day are truly illuminating.

Michelle Obama paid a surprise visit to a combined middle and high school in Washington D.C, the Cardozo Education Campus, where she held a roundtable with twelve young women.

“We’re celebrating International Women’s Day with a group of amazing young women. We’re going to talk about education — the importance of it in their lives and in mine” said Michelle on Snapchat.

On the other hand, Melania Trump held a luncheon at the White House. Her guest list?

  • Billionaire Betsey DeVos
  • Billionaire Linda McMahon
  • Kellyanne Conway
  • Karen “Mother” Pence
  • Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME)
  • Ivanka Trump

The group dined on “on tomato mozzarella salad, thyme-brined chicken, spinach gnocchi and honeycrisp apple crostata at tables with oversized purple floral centerpieces, including tulips and sweet peas, and white wine,” according to CNN.

While Michelle Obama is out with the people and helping to inspire young women, Melania Trump hides in the White House and dines like Marie Antoinette, surrounded by the wealthy and the powerful.

The difference couldn’t be more clear.
