Watergate Legend Just Said What The Media Won’t About Tonight’s Trump-Russia Bombshell
Veteran reporter Carl Bernstein, whose groundbreaking reporting helped uncover President Nixon’s Watergate scandal, joined CNN’s Anderson Cooper to discuss the latest revelations – that there is in fact is more than circumstantial evidence pointing to collusion between President Trump’s election campaign and agents of the Russian Federation.
Bernstein took a moment for a quick victory lap before diving into it:
“Well I’ve been saying for a while that there’s a coverup going on here. The coverup is among those who worked in the Trump campaign and associates of Trump and it’s now becoming much more clear what it is that they have been concealing which are these contacts, which revolve around leaked emails from [Clinton campaign chairman John] Podesta’s account.
What we’re seeing is push back, smoke screens, an attempt to keep away from what really happened here by the President of the United States, by [press secretary] Sean Spicer, and that raises a whole set of additional questions,”
The vehemency of White House denials and the efforts that President Trump and the Republicans in Congress have gone to distract the public from the slow but steady leak of information just reeks of guilt. Every time a new piece of information leaks, the White Housue claims ignorance, the Republican cry that is is innocent and mundane, and the Democrats ask why it was concealed in the first place.
Bernstein went on to shame the Republican Party for putting party over country and turning a blind eye to potentially treasonous collusion between their president and agents of a hostile foreign power:
“The heroes of Watergate were really Republicans, they were Republicans in the House and the Senate who wanted this investigated to the bottom: What did the president know and when did he know it. That’s what we’re not seeing here. We’re not seeing it from the Republicans on the Hill who are consumed by supposedly looking for leaks.”
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) are the only two Republicans who have dared to take a stand against Trump and demand an investigation into his shady Russian ties; they also happen to have both been personally insulted by him in the past.
If this leads to Trump’s impeachment, the Republican Party must go down with him, for they have been aiding and abetting traitors just so they can gut the Affordable Care Act and funnel the money of ordinary Americans to the wealthy.
