FAIL: Republicans Are Airing These Ads Thanking Congress For Passing Trumpcare

Just when we think Trumpcare could not be more humiliating for Republicans, it gets worse. (Or is it better?)

Founded and chaired by former Senator Norm Coleman (unseated in 2008 by Senator Al Franken (D-MN), the conservative American Action Network (AAN) has built a reputation as a major player in the shadowy world of Republican “dark money.” Out in the light of day, however, their actions are not quite as impressive.

Hours after Republicans conceded defeat in their efforts to repeal Obamacare and strip healthcare from 24 million Americas, AAN aired commercials thanking Republican members of Congress for “replacing the Affordable Care Act” by voting in favor of a bill, which not only didn’t pass but never came to a vote.

The ads all open by stating in bold block letters: “REPUBLICANS KEEPING THEIR PROMISE.” The obvious misnomer backfired on the  PAC, calling more attention to the hypocrisy and futility of the right while providing some Friday night comic relief to many Democrats.

Deadspin reports that the ads aired during NCAA basketball games in at least four Congressional Districts, thanking Representatives Barbara Comstock (R-Va.), David Young (R-Iowa), David Valadao (R-Calif.) and Will Hurd (R-Tex.). As of midday Saturday, AAN was still hosting the commercials on its youtube page for at least ten Republican members.

The spot thanking vulnerable Rep. Darrel Issa (D-CA) can be viewed below.

The ad did get something right. Since the Republicans did not, in fact, keep their promise of repealing Obamacare, they gave us something to be thankful for after all.

Thanks Republicans!
