Nunes Just Froze The Entire House Intelligence Committee’s Operations
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, has brought the entire investigation into the Trump campaign’s potentially treasonous collusion with Russian agents during the 2016 election to a screeching halt.
On top of that, it appears that all other committee work has also been suspended.
Earlier this afternoon, Nunes canceled a scheduled meeting with FBI Director James Comey and NSA director Mike Rogers, saying that “until Comey comes forward, it’s hard for us to move forward with interviews and depositions.”
The FBI responded in frustrated confusion, saying that Nunes had never requested that Comey appear, as per NBC’s Peter Alexander:

Nunes promised that “nothing has been canceled…Everything is moving forward as is. We’re continuing to try to schedule a time to bring them in for a closed session.”
But the ranking Democrats on the committee are complaining that the entire operation of the committee – even on non-Russia related oversight – has come to a grinding halt since Nunes canceled the committee’s weekly panel meetings.
“Effectively what has happened is the committee’s oversight, oversight of our national intelligence apparatus, has come to a halt because of this particular issue,” says Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT).
“In my three years here, I’ve never seen us have a full week without a hearing, We’ve made no progress since last Monday’s open hearing, and that is intentional” echoed Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA).
Now that the New Yorker has revealed that Nunes is getting his talking points directly from the White House, it is beyond obvious that Nunes is deliberately sabotaging his own committee in order to protect the White House from further scrutiny.
Nunes has put his party over his country and is enabling potential treason by refusing to give the investigation its due diligence. Our national security demands that he recuse himself from this investigation and we must appoint an independent prosecutor to get to the bottom of this once and for all.
When Trump is eventually found guilty, Nunes and all the other Republicans who aided and abetted his collusion with hostile foreign powers must face the punishments they deserve.
