The New York Times has just revealed the real reason why FBI Director James Comey was abruptly fired from his position yesterday. A few days before President Trump took the recommendation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Comey asked the Department of Justice for more money and personnel to conduct the investigation into Trump and his campaign team’s potentially treasonous collusion with agents of the Russian Federation.
While Trump and Sessions tried to argue that Comey’s clumsy handling of the Clinton email case – which is largely seen as the reason that Trump won the election in the first place – was the reason for his firing, it’s clear that Trump is growing more and more panicked as the hounds pick up the scent of his treason and close in.
Former senior FBI officials believe Trump will replace Comey with someone who will close the investigation.
Grand jury subpoenas have been filed against the associates of disgraced National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, and recent Freedom of Information Act requests have inadvertently confirmed that President Trump himself is a target of the FBI’s investigation.
The firing of Comey is an obvious attempt to squash the investigation and save his own skin, but all the tweeting in the world won’t be enough to prevent this Nixonian scandal from toppling his entire administration.
