White House Just Urged Prosecuting Ex-FBI Chief Comey. Preet Bharara’s Response Is Perfect

Today, in a transparent effort to discredit a witness to some of President Trump’s crimes, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders suggested that fired FBI Director James Comey should be prosecuted.

Without giving evidence, Sanders argued that Comey may have perjured himself in his testimony to Congress.

In the defamation and false criminal accusations against a political opponent, former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara — who was also fired by Trump — saw the tactics of a petty tyrant, and he called out the president in no uncertain terms. (Tweet below.)

Of course it’s far from the first time Trump has employed tactics generally seen only in authoritarian dictatorships. Bharara reels off seven of Trump’s recent egregious defenses and, in Jeopardy! fashion, calls them exactly what they are: un-American.

Bharara may be out of public office, but he is still fighting the good fight and speaking truth to power. Let’s hope he never stops.
