Matt Gaetz provokes mockery after declaring himself a “cancelled” martyr

Things are not looking great for Republican Matt Gaetz, whose deeply bizarre underage sex trafficking scandal continues to grow worse by the day. The most recent reports show that Gaetz sent sums of money to a suspected sex trafficker, Joel Greenberg, who then sent the money to young women for “school” and “tuition” — but you don’t need a degree to figure out what was really going on.

Greenberg currently faces 33 counts, including sex trafficking of a minor, stalking, bribery, and defrauding COVID-19 relief programs. With the colossal amount of prison time hanging over his head, it’s almost certain that Greenberg is going to spill the beans on his party buddy Matt Gaetz — and we have a funny feeling that the mysterious payments to a 17-year-old are just the tip of the iceberg.

Despite the extremely creepy and predatory nature of the accusations against him, Gaetz continues to behave as if he’s being punished for offending liberals instead of allegedly violating sex trafficking laws.

On Saturday afternoon, Gaetz published a defiant statement claiming that he was a “cancelled man” and persecuted by the Deep State before switching into an astonishingly lazy and transparent attempt to ape Trump’s populist schtick.

Sure, Matt Gaetz. If there’s one thing millions of Americans can empathize with, it’s being under federal investigation for sex trafficking underage girls with your drinking buddies. Who among us has not showed off nude photographs of women on the floor of Congress or played a “Harry Potter” sex game with low-level Florida politicians? Truly a man of the people.

Social media was not impressed with Gaetz’s little display of bravado:
