The comedians at FunnyOrDie are back again with a hilarious satire of the Republican war-hawk congressmen who are just besides themselves with the idea that President Obama might have solved an international crisis with diplomacy, instead of another fruitless and catastrophic invasion of a hostile foreign country. New Security Action, a progressive foreign policy group, paired up with the comedy site to show just how dangerous the war-mongers in the Senate can be. Steven Miles, the group’s director, remarks that the “very same folks who brought us the Iraq War now want to kill a negotiated deal and put us on a path to war with Iran. It’s up to those who think that this is a particularly bad idea to make their voices heard.”
A parody of the film “the Expendables,” the announcer booms that “they’re too old to fight a war, but that won’t stop these brave U.S. senators from trying to start one with Iran!” as mockeries of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and all the other ultra-nationalist Republicans destroy the deal in a fusillade of ignorance and bullets. “Last time, they started a war in Iraq because of ‘weapons of mass destruction’. This time, it’s pretty much the same thing, but with I-ran. So it’s totally different. Like a whole letter different” finishes the voiceover. “Do you think we can get away with this sh*t again?” asks one Senator, as the others erupt in evil laughter.
It’s a spot on indictment of the frenzy of fear that got us into the catastrophic Iraq War in the first place. They must not be allowed to succeed again.
