In this clip from Real Time with Bill Maher, Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) shuts down an Obamacare critic’s meandering excuses with fiery words and the sharp truth of her experiences on the hill.
Maher draws a question card, and reads out “Will the GOP admit that Obamacare is working, or will they continue campaigning against it?” He points at his conservative guest, Charles Cooke: “I guess this one is for you.”
Cooke grudgingly admits there have been “some” gains (yes, Mr.Cooke, “only” 17 million) in the uninsured rate but argues that the deductibles will “cause a lot of problems.”
Senator McCaskill takes issue with that: “I’ve been hearing about “replace” for six years, I’ve got the bloodhounds out, I’ve gone up and down the halls, searched in hearing rooms, all i hear is “replace” but when you ask them what to replace with, all you hear is crickets!”
Cooke then points out that both Walker and Rubio have issued vague pronouncements full of generalizations that are somehow supposed to make up a coherent policy, but McCaskill isn’t having it: “I just know that Republicans in charge of Congress have voted thousands of times to repeal Obamacare, and I have never had an opportunity on a piece of legislation to replace it…they have NOT PUT IT FORWARD!”
