Ted Cruz: My Wife Is Mad At Me For Not Enrolling My Family in Obamacare
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), to hear him speak, apparently believes that the Affordable Care Act and extending health insurance to millions of Americans will be the end of our nation and possibly civilization as we know it. He famously went on a twenty-one hour speech in Congress to protest the passing of the landmark legislation, but amusingly was forced to purchase healthcare through an Obamacare marketplace after losing coverage when his wife left her lucrative job at Goldman Sachs so that Cruz could portray himself as “an outsider” and not a part of the “Washington cartel,” even though he took a $1 million loan from Goldman Sachs to start his campaign.
Cruz is without healthcare at the moment, something he used immediately to take shots at Obama with. “I’ll tell you, you know who one of those millions of Americans is who’s lost their health care because of Obamacare? That would be me! I don’t have health care right now” complained Cruz to a crowd in New Hampshire.
But Cruz, who is a notorious liar, is wrong on both counts. Millions of Americans have gained healthcare thanks to the ACA, and Cruz didn’t lose his coverage because of the law – he lost his coverage his provider switched from a PPO to an HMO plan, because he was too busy lying to the American people to file for it again when his policy expired. He simply forgot to renew it, and had five months to do so. Thanks, Obama!
Apparently his wife, Heidi, is not pleased with him, as Cruz felt the urge to share with potential voters: “By the way, when you let your health insurance policy lapse, your wife gets really ticked at you. It’s not a good — I’ve had, shall we say, some intense conversations with Heidi on that. We’re in the process of finding another policy. I hope by the end of the month we’ll have a policy for our family. But our premiums — we just got a quote, our premiums are going up 50 percent. That’s happening all over the country.” You will not be surprised to learn that in fact, premiums are certainly not jumping up to 50%, and it is not happening all over the country.
Oh yes, Mr. Cruz, it’s always amusing when you put your personal ambitions and religious extremism above the well-being and health of your family! It just goes to show how ridiculous the right-wing’s hatred for Obama has grown. Cruz blames the President for his own irresponsibility; Sarah Palin blames him for the fact that her son got very drunk and viciously beat his girlfriend. What could they possibly blame him for next?
UPDATE: It turns out that Ted Cruz never lost his heath insurance at all.
