In this clip from last night’s Real Time with Bill Maher, he and his panel tears into the legacy of recently deceased Supreme Court Justice for his decades long efforts to reverse social progress and to force his perverse ideas about race and religion on to a nation which no longer tolerates such primitive sentiments. Guest Michael Eric Dyson offers a scathing rebuke to Scalia’s comments about how black Americans aren’t smart enough to attend top colleges:
“This figure here was an excellent jurist in terms of the mechanics of interpretation, but he applied them in such a vicious and condemnatory fashion towards vulnerable people and poor people, and the statement he made before his death that black people ought to go to second-tier schools is one of the most ridiculous repudiations of common sense, and God bless his soul, but it was an evil examination of a practice that should have been dismissed – along with his outdated thinking.”
The panel continues to dissect Scalia’s discriminatory remarks against LGBTQ Americans and how he succumbed to the right-wing echo chamber, which distorted his thinking and lead him into the abyss of Republican talking points and came to accept their mistruths as facts.
