Once again, we must inform you that there has been a mass shooting in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. Police reports indicate that two shooters attacked a backyard party, killing five and hospitalizing three others. The suspects are on the run and a police manhunt is in progress; little other information is currently available.
This is the town’s second mass shooting, the last one in 2000.
Our nation has had 46 mass shootings so far this year, and the state of Iowa recently passed a bill allowing children to wield firearms. Our efforts to put limits on the reckless distribution of firearms in this country are failing. There were six individual shootings in Philadelphia last night; in Chicago, there were more than 21 people shot in 20 hours, leaving the city reeling. Clearly, something isn’t working – and since Republican deregulation has only brought more needless death, it’s about time we tried the opposite.
This story will be updated as new developments emerge.
