World-famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio slammed the Republican presidential candidates today for their refusal to accept the reality of climate change. Speaking at a press conference in Japan promoting his new movie
LeoDiCaprio In Excruciating Pain For Three Hours the Revenant, DiCaprio said that “we should not have a candidate who doesn’t believe in modern science to be leading our country. Climate change is one of the most concerning issues facing all humanity and the United States needs to do its part.”
DiCaprio has taken up the mantle of environmentalism and is working tirelessly around the world to promote green energy. His charitable foundation recently donated $5 million to the tiny island nation of Seychelles for ocean conservation and combating the effects of climate change, bringing his total of donated money to $30 million for green projects around the world. “I’m proud my foundation is partnering with Seychelles and the Nature Conservancy on this innovative project that will protect this vital ocean habitat and fragile marine life” said Di Caprio. “We champion projects like this one across the globe that use cutting-edge methods in conservation and environmental protection.”
The United States is the only nation in the world with a major political party that denies the existence of climate change. Republican front-runner Donald Trump has said in the past that climate change is a hoax created by the Chinese government in order to make American businesses less competitive; most recently he said that he is not “a great believer in man-made climate change. I’m not a great believer. I think our biggest form of climate change we should worry about is nuclear weapons.”
Religious extremist Ted Cruz, on the other hand, has received $25 million in donation from fossil fuel magnates and is thus contractually obligated to oppose climate science at every turn. It is just another example of how the Republican Party is once again making our nation an international embarrassment, endangering not only our lives but those of the rest of the world with their obstinate ignorance.
