GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has proved himself to be shameless and resistant to the justified ridicule he regularly absorbs in the media, but now The Simpsons have thundered into the arena with a three minute standalone clip which satirizes Trump like never before. Before getting busy in the bedroom Marge and Homer discuss their options in voting for president. A narrator’s voice poses the question. “It’s 3 a.m. and the phone is ringing in The White House. Who do you want to answer the call?”
This question is a reference to the former presidential campaign of Clinton in 2008 when she ran an ad where a phone rang at 3 a.m. while asking who the American people wanted to answer the phone if a moment of calamity were to arise.
The video hits all of the easily mocked tenets of the disaster which is Trump. A dog for hair? It is in there. Mention of his tiny, child like, sausage fingers? Oh yes. His stunning and mesmerizingly bad orange spray tan? Of course. The writers even included a book on Trump’s bed entitled “Great Speeches by A. Hitler”, something which Trump’s ex-wife Ivana says The Donald actually had in his beside cabinet.
Perhaps the most poignant moment of the clip is the way in which it illuminates Hillary Clinton’s best point from her speech at the Democratic National Convention; Clinton said, “A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons.”
While hilarious will the video itself have any impact on the presidential election? That remains to be seen.
