Conservative religious broadcaster Tony Perkins had to flee his Louisiana home in a canoe in the wake of catastrophic flooding this past weekend. As the leader of the fanatical “Family Research Council” lobbying group, Perkins has been telling his daily radio audience for years that gay people attract natural disasters.
On Monday, guest host Ken Klukowski interviewed Pastor Tony Perkins on his own daily Washington Watch radio program and couldn’t hold back pointing out the meaning of the disastrous flooding in Baton Rouge when introducing the anti-LGBT pastor and supporter of Republican religious extremist Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX):
“Down in Louisiana they’re just being devastated by he impact of this storm, and it is tremendously ironic that one of the individuals impacted is actually the normal host of this show, Mr. Tony Perkins himself, whose home has been overrun by this natural disaster.”
But Perkins hypocritically did not make a single comment on the “tremendous irony” or the actual causes of Louisiana’s severe flooding which has impacted 80% of his churchgoers, simply saying that, “We had to escape from our home Saturday by canoe. We had about 10′ feet of water at the end of our driveway.”
These “500-year-flood” events have actually become far more common recently, which some journalists call a “classic signal of climate change,” based on the improbable confluence of so many massively unexpected rainstorms recently, which incidentally do support climatologists assertions that more carbon in the earth’s atmosphere is retaining more heat, which will unleash more extreme weather around the globe.
The Family Research Council was actually classified as a hate group in 2010 by the Southern Poverty Law Center for it’s promotion of sexual orientation discrimination, and its false message of ‘gay people causing natural disasters’ has finally been tested, and disproven by the man of religion who spreads those lies.
Unfortunately for Tony Perkins and his Christian lobbying group, pastor/leader, the reality of dealing with climate change driven disasters is proving to be far less simple than demonizing the LGBT community on the radio, when real disaster hits home.
