The Internet finds itself buzzing with both laughter and outrage at a sign which was placed outside of a cafe in England which perfectly summed up the feelings of many Europeans in regards to Americans after the people of the United States foolishly elected Donald J. Trump to be the 45th president.
The sign in question was found outside of Goswell Road Coffee, in Clerkenwell, England, which said:
ALL AMERICANS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.
Some found the sign to be amusing, and others found it insulting based on the pretext that the people of England voted for “Brexit”, a devastatingly ignorant legislative decision that will remove the nation from the European Union.
Others took a more tactful approach in reminding the individuals that the voting public in England don’t have the best track record either:
The owner of the cafe, Adrian Jones, said, “Our signs are not meant as offensive but it is imperative to remember that offence is taken, not given.” This was not the first time a sign outside of a shop owned by jones caught the attention of the world. In June, outside of Jonestown Coffee, which is also owned by Adrian Jones, a sign said:
AMERICA AND BRITAIN ARE HAVING A COMPETITION ON WHO CAN FUCK THEMSELVES UP THE MOST. BRITAIN IS IN THE LEAD, BUT AMERICA HAS A TRUMP CARD.
During the fervor of activity, Goswell Road Coffee’s Twitter account remind its patrons and the world that the signs are meant for humor, and they themselves as a company endorse no specific viewpoint, or ideology. In a world which has become so compartmentalized with individuals who are unable to stand criticism of themselves or their political leanings, it has become more important than ever for satire to give voice to the sentiment of millions. These signs accomplish just that.
