New reports indicate that Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of State, Exxon-Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson. is also the director of a Russian oil subsidiary company. Since 1998, Tillerson has been a director of Exxon Neftegas, a company created to exploit oil resources on the Russian Sakhalin Island and other areas in the sea of Okhotsk.
The company is based in the Bahamas, where the tax documents obtained by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung originated from.
Tillerson’s use of offshore tax havens flies in the face of Trump’s promise to “hire American and buy American.” Tillerson has also been roundly criticized for his close connection to Vladimir Putin and the Russian oligarchs who control the state-owned oil companies, Rostneft and Gazprom.
There’s a $500 billion deal at stake between Exxon and Rostneft. Exxon committed $700 million to drilling in the Kara Sea and discovered a goldmine of oil that they aren’t allowed to work on since the White House imposed sanctions on Russia after they provided ground-to-air missiles to separatist Ukranian rebels, who promptly shot down Malaysia Airlines MH17 by accident and killed 298 innocents.
Tillerson as Secretary of State will certainly drop those sanctions – and make a killing. He currently owns $218 million in Exxon stock. He is also the recipient of the Russian Order of Friendship, given to him by none other than dictator Vladimir Putin, the mastermind behind the hacking of the Democratic Party during the election.
Trump’s cabinet reeks of corruption to its very core. Rex Tillerman, as leader of one of the world’s biggest oil companies, cannot be trusted to act in the best interests of the United States. He will put his wallet and those of his oligarch buddies above the needs of the American people every time, and you can expect his Republican minions in Congress to do the same.
