Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) established a name for himself in Washington and solidified his position as one of the most universally despised men in government by leading the obstruction fight against Obamacare, spearheading a government shutdown and wasting billions of taxpayer dollars for his own personal glory.
An aide to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called it “like a toddler’s version of legislating.” But Cruz is very proud of that moment. It’s the closest thing to an accomplishment the vile man has to claim.
Which makes it even more infuriating to hear Ted Cruz complaining to Turning Point USA that it’s us, the Democrats, who are too radicalized and are going to become “obstructionists at a level we’ve never seen” and will “filibuster absolutely everything they can.”
This coming from a man who the Washington Post labeled the “obstructer-in-chief” is just outrageous. Ted Cruz is a religious extremist and a legislative terrorist of the worst kind. He hasn’t even accomplished anything in his endless fights over Obamacare (it passed) or Planned Parenthood (still funded) or the Export-Import Bank (reauthorized) except to waste Senate time and taxpayer dollars, irritating even his Republican colleagues.
For him to accuse Democrats of becoming “too radical” and obstructionist is a clear sign of how Trump’s Republican Party is planning to gaslight the nation and twist the truth, blaming Democrats for everything that’s going to go wrong over the next four years. We can’t let him get away with this smear campaign.
Ironically, he may be right. Democrats should obstruct and fillibuster at every turn – only because this time, the lives and livelihoods of American citizens will be at risk, not the profits of healthcare corporations or the personal ambitions of Ted Cruz.
