Trump Just Threatened Action Against North Korea On Twitter

President-elect Donald Trump isn’t even President yet but he’s already putting our nation at risk with his Twitter shenanigans. Earlier this afternoon, the real estate mogul threatened North Korea over a statement made during dictator Kim Jong-un’s (a man who, we should remember, endorsed Donald Trump’s candidacy) annual New Years’ address, during which he said that preparations for an ICBM have “reached the final stage.”

Analysts believe that while the small authoritarian nation may be closer to testing a missile, it is years away from perfecting a weapon and notes that North Korean media threatens the United States with nuclear tests on a fairly regular basis in order to show strength and for propaganda purposes to the public.

Of course, Donald Trump would know that if he bothered to ever attend his intelligence briefings. Instead, he’s decided to casually provoke an international incident – AGAIN – by talking trash about North Korea and their biggest ally in the region, the People’s Republic of China.

It should be noted that Trump hasn’t indicated whether or not he’s actually threatening action or if he means that he doesn’t believe the missile test would be successful, which is a fair consideration. Last year, North Korea attempted eight tests of its medium-range Musudan missile; only one was successful. But Trump obviously doesn’t know that, and the pot-shot at the People’s Republic is entirely uncalled for and extremely counterproductive.

The last time Trump provoked China, the Chinese military seized an American Navy surveillance submarine drone and sparked an incident which President Obama was forced to resolve.

Trump’s seemingly out of nowhere response to statements made a day ago aren’t “random.” Let this sink in. Donald Trump, president-elect, was most likely sitting and watching FOX News, heard his favorite fear-monger hype up the threat of a nuclear Korea, and decided to provoke an international incident on Twitter. His habits of tweeting about what he sees on TV are already well-established.

Trump isn’t even the President yet and he is already engaging in cowboy diplomacy, running his mouth off and diving into nuclear politics with a global superpower by employing the minimal amount of thought it takes to rattle off 140 characters and the proud ignorance. This isn’t Wargames; this is not leadership and this is not how a man who has 300 million lives to protect goes about keeping his people safe. This is reckless endangerment of the American people and international stability.
