It hasn’t been a full week into 2017 and American already has had its first mass major shooting. Thirteen people were shot at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport by a single attacker. Five innocents are dead and a suspect is in custody.

“He was a lone shooter and we have no evidence at this time that he was acting with anyone else” said former Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief. There is no indication as to motive as of yet. The shooter has been identified as Esteban Santiago from his military ID.

Shots have been reported fired in the Delta Terminal 2, meaning there may be a second shooter.
So far in 2017, six days in, nearly 200 Americans have died from gun violence in 820 shooting incidents. But with the election of Donald Trump and a Republican majority in both houses of Congress, any hope for any comprehensive reform or the imposition of common-sense gun laws is long gone.
