President-elect Donald Trump and his team have been working desperately to manage the catastrophic fallout of a scandalous dossier published by Buzzfeed two days ago. The document alleges that Russian officials have sensitive personal and financial information that could be used against Trump, including humiliating details of sexual acts.
This, of course, calls into question Trump’s impartiality and exposes his vulnerability to blackmail by a hostile foreign power and thus his qualification to be President of the United States.
Trump tried to save face by flat out lying in a tweet this morning, claiming that the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, believed the report to be false and illegally circulated:
James Clapper called me yesterday to denounce the false and fictitious report that was illegally circulated. Made up, phony facts.Too bad!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 12, 2017
However, Clapper was quick to call out Trump on his lies, as reported by POLITICO:
“I emphasized that this document is not a U.S. Intelligence Community product and that I do not believe the leaks came from within the IC. The IC has not made any judgment that the information in this document is reliable.“
Trump’s botched coverup reeks of desperation. He has the audacity to put words in the mouth of the most important intelligence official in America with the disturbing expectation that he would remain silent and normalize Trump’s false version of reality. Of course a professional intelligence officer like Clapper isn’t going to stand for that, and took the time to publicly remind the world that the allegations in the report have not been disproved.
The report contains explosive allegations of sexual misconduct by Donald Trump and Russian prostitutes, evidence of which the Russian government allegedly has on video. While unverified, the BBC confirms there is a second confirming source and it was deemed credible enough by US intelligence agencies to present to President Obama.
If Trump is truly being blackmailed by the Russian Federation, he is certainly cannot be trusted to lead this nation.
As Trump’s inauguration draws near, he still relies on constant lies that can be almost instantly falsified. Time and again the man that is about to become the most powerful figure in the world makes a fool of himself by lying and being called out by intelligent leaders in society.
