Our president, Donald Trump, is a man unhinged. His mental faculties are deteriorating at an alarming rate; his public pronouncements becoming even more nonsensical and discombobulated every time he sits in front of a microphone. Incapable of focusing on one subject for more than a few sentences, he inevitably reverts back to his favorite subject, himself, no matter what the topic at hand is. He is animated by sheer narcissism alone.
Just take a look at his opening remarks at a breakfast commemorating the beginning of Black History Month.
Trump immediately begins praising the quality of the one African-American in his cabinet, a skilled surgeon but one who has absolutely no experience in government and housing. Where “mind and spirit” factor into managing public housing is unclear. Trump then dives into discussing the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr, which he does for an entire seven words before launching into a whiny rant about his war with the media.
He then touches on other heroes of the civil rights era, but it’s quite clear he has no idea who Frederick Douglass was.
But he can barely make it through his empty platitudes and condescending praise for the rights that men and women fought and died for to earn before he turns back to himself and the media:
There’s no rhyme or reason to any of this. But the worst part is his concluding remarks when he drops any pretense at discussing the real issues that affect the African-American community and instead congratulates his black surrogates for being such shameless opportunists they’d support this obvious racist.
Of course, Trump can’t help himself from rewriting history and claiming that he won more of the black vote than Clinton, which couldn’t be further from the truth. Trump won 8% of the black vote. He ends by thanking Omarosa Manigault, the former Celebrity Apprentice star who now has a White House job.
These remarks are not the words of a mentally sound man. Not only are they offensive in their casual dismissal, but these are the ramblings of a deranged narcissist who can barely string together enough passable sound bytes to address the topic at hand before wandering back to self-praise, oft-repeated delusions, and a petulant condemnation of his enemies.
This explains the past week’s events. Trump is an idiot puppet, willfully signing anything that neo-Nazi Stephen Bannon or any of his other oligarch cabinet members slides under his nose, easily convinced that the idea was his. He is eager to pass off the duties of his office to anyone willing to take them so he can go back to watching FOX News. Entirely unfit to hold the presidency, we must pressure our representatives into removing him under the terms of the 25th Amendment.
