In this hilarious clip from last night’s Daily Show, Trevor Noah tears into President Donald Trump for publicly using his position as President to criticize Nordstrom for dropping his daughter Ivanka’s poor-performing line of jewelry, clothing, and shoes.
“The products are ‘just not selling? Wow. You know, for someone who would have won the popular vote, it sure seems like Trump is unpopular. Obviously what happened here is millions of dead illegal immigrants aren’t buying Ivanka’s shoes” jokes Noah.
He rightfully points out the ridiculous double standard that Trump holds for his family – “Don’t punish Ivanka’s brand for her father’s policies, because guilt by association is wrong. Anyway, back to the Muslim ban.”
But it’s in the conclusion where Noah really nails him: “Let’s just take a second to appreciate what just happened here. For months, the Trump administration has been saying Trump businesses will be completely separated from Trump’s policies. And now they are arguing that it’s impossible to separate Trump’s businesses from his policies, which is what we’ve been saying.”
Donald Trump’s refusal to separate himself from his businesses is an enormous conflict of interest – and coming in the wake of Melania Trump’s arguing that she was planning on using her role as First Lady to expand her brand, it seems the whole family is just waiting to make a buck off their father’s office – cronyism and nepotism at its worst.
