Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) flew home this weekend, but wound up having to run out the back door when confronted by a group of angry women chanting, “Mitch is a chicken.”
Meanwhile, Democratic Congressman John Yarmouth (D-KY) arrived at Louisville International Airport on the same flight, walked into the terminal and was “welcomed by cheers” according to WAVE3 TV News.
But the protesters didn’t give up so easily, and instead, they organized a massive candlelight vigil in front of McConnell’s Louisville residence so that they could read the Coretta Scott King letter naming Attorney General Jeff Sessions as a racist to the headf GOP lawmaker.
Tweets from the scene claimed that 500 protesters followed Mitch McConnell home, where presumably Trump’s new Transportation Secretary would’ve also witnessed the scene – she’s married to the Republican lawmaker.
Haha. After flying home, McConnell refused to go through the terminal so he could avoid protesters, while Yarmuth walked through to cheers. pic.twitter.com/NWKhFXtxFD

It was Sen. McConnell who condescendingly said that “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted” to Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MASS) when she attempted to read the Coretta Scott King’s now-famous letter on the Senate floor. He never imagined that his words might apply to the persistent protesters in his hometown.

“And even though we were warned,” said the woman with a bullhorn leading the protest at Sen. McConnell’s house as the crowd echoed, “and even though we were warned.” “And even though we were given an explanation,” she said, as the crowd dutifully repeated her, “We Are Still Persisting!”

The crowd roared as they went into a reading of civil rights legend Corretta Scott King’s letter declaiming Republican Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ use of the US Attorneys office to pursue a program of voter suppression and his many accusations of racism.
Mitch McConnell’s brazenly sexist act of censorship on the Senate floor this past week and provided feminists and Democrats with an excellent new slogan in the era of anti-Trump resistance. Now, he’d better get used to this kind of protest at airports, at home, in the halls of Congress and on the streets of America. The public has had enough of Trump and spineless Trump apologists like McConnell.
If GOP Congressmen keep insisting on doing the wrong things for the American people like stealing our healthcare and cutting taxes for the super-wealthy, we will persist in protesting them.
Democrats will persist in raising the important issues that former-President Obama and party leaders have fought for years, like anti-discrimination, universal healthcare, and equal protection under the law.
