Journalist Ari Melber has just reported that a bipartisan effort has been launched to determine exactly what transpired during former national security advisor Michael Flynn’s secret calls with the Russian ambassador.
Flynn was speaking to the Russian ambassador while he was a part of the Donald Trump transition team – before he was actually in a position to talk substantive policy with the ambassador. However, it is now confirmed that Flynn was illegally talking about sanctions that President Obama’s administration had slapped on Russian oligarchs as a punishment for interfering in the American election.
Flynn was forced to resign in disgrace as allegations about the extent of his treasonous behavior swirl.
Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Diane Feinstein (D-CA) are spearheading the effort to obtain transcripts of Flynn’s contacts with Russia that were wiretapped.

The letter addresses both F.B.I. Director James Comey and Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The F.B.I. is reported to have intercepted the phone calls between Flynn and the Russian ambassador, and Sessions’ participation is essential for any action on the part of the Justice Department to investigate Flynn’s conduct. Both men are obviously hesitant to broach this urgent issue.
Comey mishandled allegations about Hillary Clinton during the election and now it seems that he deliberately withheld allegations about Trump in order to help him win. Jeff Sessions is a Trump crony through and through who has already indicated he will not recuse himself from this investigation as he should.
If the Senators can win this battle, they will have evidence to launch further in-depth investigations and unearth the truth for the American people. If Trump and his team are colluding with a hostile foreign power, we need to know, and we need to see justice served.
It is about time that our representatives step up to fight against Trump. This is not about partisan politics, this is about national security. Republicans need to get their heads around that and start doing their jobs for once.
