If there’s anything that illustrates the arrogance of American police officers and the disrespect they show the citizens they’re supposed to be protecting and serving.
At an immigration protest on February 16th in Tuscon, Arizona, Rolande Baker, a retired schoolteacher, was brutally shoved to the ground and maced by a police officer.
Baker, 86, said “I saw the police being way more aggressive than I’ve ever seen them be.” Thankfully, she was uninjured.
But the police department is investigating the incident for obvious reasons.
It’s a remarkable glimpse into the way police departments are dealing with the increased emotions at the frequent protests that spring up in response to President Trump’s white supremacist agenda.
Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus said the believes his officers “by and large” handled the situation well. “Most of the crowd complied, but a very specific subgroup elected to remain in the road and challenge the directions they were given by the officers.”
It is absolutely unacceptable that challenging the directions of a police officer is somehow an excuse for violence. This woman is eighty-six years old, and still, this man felt “threatened” enough to shove her to the ground and mace her?
This cop better be losing that badge quickly. He’s an “officer involved shooting” waiting to happen.
