The FBI Just Shot Down Trump’s Claims That Obama Ordered His Wiretaps
FBI Director Comey laid all of his cards on the table with President Trump in a Sunday showdown with the White House over the checks on executive power that keep law enforcement agencies independent during political investigations.
The New York Times reports that controversial FBI Director James Comey just made a very public move to shut down President Trump’s outrageous allegations against President Obama in an early morning tweetstorm this weekend.

The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.
Mr. Comey made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter. Mr. Comey has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down Mr. Trump’s claim because there is no evidence to support it and it insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.
Needless to say, it would be unprecedented for the Justice Department to publicly rebuke the sitting President. However, this is unlikely, Trump has filled his executive branch with personally loyal cronies and there is no way that the former Senator who chaired the Republican campaign’s national security committee, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, would make such a statement.
The White House confirmed that one of its lawyers is actively seeking information about any investigations against the President. This is highly inappropriate and follows a push by Chief of Staff Priebus to coerce the FBI Director regarding investigations of the Trump regime.
Last month, the Trump White House also enlisted the heads of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees to denounce the theory that he has Russian ties. This despite the fact that both are currently tasked with overseeing the only Congressional investigations into a massive international election hack, probably committed by the Russian government.
Trump is in way over his head and doing the only thing he knows how to do: overplay his hand a strong-arm his opponents. He is about to learn that the FBI does not take kindly to attempted manipulation.
