The House Intelligence Committee is currently holding a public hearing into the Russian Federation’s interference in the 2016 elections and the Trump campaign’s potentially treasonous collusion with foreign agents.
The line of questioning in the hearing quickly split along partisan lines.
Democrats, led by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), are intent on discovering whether or not the Trump campaign was actively working in concert with Russian agents to subvert our democratic system and to determine whether or not Donald Trump or his camp are being blackmailed by the Kremlin.
Republicans like Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) and Trey Gowdy (R-SC) on the other hand are wholly focused on discovering who within the government is leaking damning information to the press and how they could possibly go about prosecuting and even jailing those responsible.
“The felonious release of classified material is definitely a crime” declared Gowdy, even though Director Comey had refused to comment on the issue entirely.
Republicans Nunes, Rooney, Gowdy are all focusing on leaks not what the investigation into Trump may be learning.

Nunes, Gowdy focused on leaks, framing Trump staff as private citizens instead of as men usurping power and abusing democracy #ComeyHearing

Legendary chess champion turned vocal anti-Putin activist Garry Kasparov summed up the whole situation perfectly:
The house is on fire, Trump is running around with a box of matches, and the GOP demands to know who called the fire department.

The so-called “patriots” of the Republican Party, who have spent the past eight years hammering Democrats for not immediately reacting to every foreign threat with fire and brimstone, are turning a blind eye to a scandal that would have every conservative howling for blood if the president in question had been a Democrat.
By doing so, they are enabling and becoming complicit in the Trump administration’s potentially treasonous dealings with Russian agents. They have nothing to say as Trump proceeds to enact a political agenda that is clearly being dictated by Moscow but are extremely intent on finding and punishing the people who are releasing information exposing the Trump team’s ties to Russia.
They just laid out their true priorities for all Americans to see.
