Ex-NSA Director Just Made A Prediction That Will Terrify Republican Leaders
Earlier today, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) told the press that an anonymous source confirmed that Trump and his transition team were under legal surveillance from the outgoing Administration of President Barack Obama. The Republican effort to validate the President’s widely discredited accusation, however, has backfired tremendously.
John Schindler, a national security columnist who has worked for the Naval Security Group and served as Director of Intelligence at the NSA, had this to say about the announcement:
If DC #GOP follows the lead of Nunes & his cynical, illegal stunt today, you can forget about any good-faith Hill inquiry into #TrumpRussia.
— John Schindler (@20committee) March 22, 2017
Schindler didn’t stop there. He indicated that Nunes’ ill-advised action, coupled with those of the Trump regime, will have far-reaching implications on the Republican Party:
We are now just one diligent special prosecutor away from a whole bunch of Republicans getting indicted for major crimes over #TrumpRussia.

Almost immediately following Nunes’ announcement, Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Adam Schiff (D-CA) put out a statement exposing numerous red flags, not only regarding the many question marks around the information itself but the the way it was divulged.
Today, Chairman Nunes shared information with WH still withheld from our committee. He cannot conduct a credible investigation this way. pic.twitter.com/wwrp7H7JWC

And Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) pointed out that any information that Nunes shared with the President might have been an infraction in and of itself:
Investigators are not supposed to "brief" the folks being investigated. https://t.co/hQsnH0oyY6

One might expect the top intelligence official in the U.S. House of Representatives to know that it is not okay to share intel on an investigation with the subject of that investigation, but apparently, one would be wrong.
Trump and his Republican enablers are finding themselves in an increasingly deep hole. And still, they keep on digging.
