Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez spoke with NBC News yesterday in Flint, Michigan, where he slammed Republicans for aiding and abetting President Trump’s potentially treasonous collusion with agents of the Russian Federation – and had a bold prediction that we all dearly hope will come to pass.
“This story has legs for years to come” said Perez about the ongoing investigations into Trump, his administration, and the campaign associates who abruptly resigned when their connections to Russia were exposed. “The mountain of evidence is being built that there was massive collusion between [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and the Trump campaign during the election,”
Then, the former prosecutor slammed the Republican Party for turning a blind eye to the allegations, using their majorities in Congress to obstruct the three ongoing investigations into Trump and his cronies, and left them with a dire warning:
“The appalling silence of so many Republicans is one of the noteworthy stories of this. History has its eyes on them, and it will not judge them well, because I have little doubt that this — at the end of this — there will be indictments.”
He rightfully complained that if the situations were reversed and a Democratic President was under investigation, they “would have already filed articles of impeachment.”
With the recent discovery that House Intelligence Committee Chair Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) was just caught sneaking onto White House grounds to meet with the anonymous source who gave him “reports” that Trump was under legal surveillance during the election, it is beyond obvious that Nunes is actively working with the White House to undermine the very investigation he is supposed to be leading.
That complicity extends to the highest levels of Republican leadership. Speaker of the House Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) today announced that he has “full confidence that Chairman Nunes is conducting a thorough, fair, and credible investigation.” This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) fought to keep secret the CIA assessments about the objectives of the Russian hacking into the servers of the Democratic National Committee and members of the Hillary Clinton campaign, refusing to join the Obama White House in releasing the CIA’s discoveries.
Trump promptly hired McConnell’s wife as Transportation Secretary.
Perez is absolutely right. This investigation has serious legs, and there will be indictments – it’s only a question of when rather than if. The Democratic Party thought they had been dealt the defeat of the century in November 2016, but we’ve been given a chance to deal one right back that we must take full advantage on.
Ryan, McConnell, Nunes, Chaffetz, Bannon, Trump – all of them are going down with this ship.
