This Auschwitz Survivor Just Told ICE Director To Stop Acting Like A Nazi

Since President Donald Trump took office ICE agents have been increasing the number of arrests of undocumented migrants. The agency appears to have acquired their new found zeal directly from the President, who made several campaign promises to reduce the number of undocumented migrants living in the United States.

However, Trump and the ICE Director Thomas Homan got a reality check this morning from a holocaust survivor. 87-year-old Bernard Marks knows a thing or two about the consequences of government-sanctioned prejudice. He survived imprisonment at both the Auschwitz and Dachau concentration camps.

At a public forum on immigration Marks stood up and told Homan:

When I was a little boy in Poland, for no other reason but for being Jewish, I was hauled off by the Nazis, and for no other reason I was picked up and separated from my family, who was exterminated in Auschwitz. And I am a survivor of Auschwitz and Dachau.

Marks then warned Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones, who was hosting the event, against working closely with Homan and ICE to fulfill Trump’s agenda:

I spent five and a half years in concentration camps, for one reason and one reason only: Because we picked on people. And you, as the sheriff, who we elected as sheriff of this county, we did not elect you for sheriff of Washington, D.C. It’s about time you side with the people here.

And when this gentleman [Homan] stands up there and says he doesn’t go after people, he should read today’s [Sacramento] Bee. Because in today’s Bee, the Supreme Court Justice of the State of California objected to ICE coming in and taking people away from the courts.

Don’t tell me that this is a lie. We stand up here, Mr Jones, don’t forget. History is not on your side.

ICE’s recent arrests of so many people, some of whom are long-time residents of the United States, are inhumane and wrong. This is exactly how it started in Germany in the 1930s, except that back then good people didn’t do enough. Now, there is an active resistance.

ICE and Trump truly know no shame. They have been arresting literally anyone who’s immigration documents are slightly askew, and even people who are asking the authorities for help. Perhaps they should start treating all Americans equally and go after Melania for incorrectly filling in her immigration documents?
