Trump Just Gave A Speech On Women And It Backfired Immediately
Today, at the State Department’s International Women of Courage Awards, Donald Trump took to the podium to praise women’s leadership, abilities, and potential for future achievement. In other words, he stood up and contradicted everything we have seen and heard from him over the last two years.
Twitter did not let him get away with it. Trump started the speech by touting his four female cabinet members then bragging about his wife’s poll numbers (no joke), before baffling the crowd by asking if they’d heard of Susan B. Anthony. Before he had even finished speaking, the twitterverse was taking him to task for his well-documented history of misogyny and refusing to let him get away with the hypocrisy.
To be certain, the Access Hollywood “grab ’em by the p*ssy” tape registered a new low in political discourse. That followed Trump insulting the physical appearance of one opponent, Carly Fiorina, and the wife of another, Ted Cruz.
It would be one thing if these behaviors were followed by even the slightest effort to atone or reform. Instead, Trump has plowed ahead with a male dominated regime that regularly demeans and undermines women in the United States and throughout the world. Just yesterday, Trump’s allies came under fire for sexist and demeaning remarks to women of color.
Today, however, women are having their say and they aren’t holding back. If the president doesn’t change his behavior dramatically and soon, he will be dealing with backlash from strong women like these for a long time.
we already believe in ourselves. It's you we have zero faith in.
