On The Daily Show last night, host Trevor Noah mercilessly ridiculed Donald Trump and his family for engaging in blatant nepotism, not even bothering to hide the corruption filling the White House. First he focused on Trump’s daughter Ivanka.
Ivanka moved her family to D.C. so her husband, Jared Kushner, could work as a White House adviser. This was the first major sign that Trump has no regard for ethics. Kushner has no relevant government or political experience. And yet he has the President’s ear and is a central figure in the most important decisions facing America.
In November, just after Trump won the election, Ivanka was asked about her role during her father’s presidency. Everyone suspected that Trump would include her somehow, but Ivanka insisted, “I’m, no, I’m going to be a daughter.”
After showing the clip, Noah burst out, “And a liar!”
First, Ivanka was inexplicably appearing with world leaders and attending White House events. Then, she had an office in the West Wing and a top level security clearance, but no government job. Now, it has been announced that Ivanka is officially a federal employee: Adviser to the President.
Then Noah turns to Eric Trump, one of Trump’s two sons who are running the family businesses. In February, Eric assured the press that during the presidency Trump would not have any say in business matters and would be keep in the dark.
In March, Eric told Forbes that, actually, he will be sharing company financial information with Trump quarterly.
Trump has barely been in office for 2 months and he is already breaking every ethics rule in the book. Not only that, he is violating promises that were made on camera. There is no excuse for this.
Trump is a dictatorial conman who, after winning votes, doesn’t care if the American people realize he was a fraudster all along. Trump wanted power, and now he has it.
