Bed Bath & Beyond Just Dealt Ivanka Trump a Major Blow

With the Trump family increasingly working to use The Donald’s position in the Oval Office to pad their already deep pockets, pressure has ratcheted up for retailers to “grab them by the wallets,” and dump Trump products from stores.

Nordstrom made headlines early in the year when it dropped First Daughter Ivanka Trump’s clothing and accessory lines from it website and stores, citing “poor sales.” The move drew a Twitter tantrum from President Donald Trump, but seemed to have no effect on the company’s decision.

The latest to side with demands that the President put people over profits is home goods giant, Bed Bath & Beyond, which has removed all Trump-related items from the company website.

Recently, Ivanka’s line of Trump Home chandeliers and diaper bags (previously available through Bed Bath & Beyond’s site, buybuybaby.com) had shown to be out of stock in online searches. However, Shannon Coulter, co-founder of the #GrabYourWallet boycott, announced via Twitter that a representative of the company had confirmed to her that it no longer sold Trump merchandise.

Like in the case of Nordstrom, Bed Bath & Beyond insists that they are not making their retail decisions based on politics and will continue to carry Ivanka’s products “in some stores.” For this reason the retailer remains on the #GrabYourWallet boycott list.

However, there can be no doubt, that this is another major blow for the Trump family and highlights the roadmap going forward. Corporate America is listening. Record numbers of Americans disapprove of this President and companies cannot afford to take sides against an active resistance. And with Trump and his inner circle showing that they are deeply concerned with their own personal wealth, affecting their their personal bank accounts has the potential to have real ramifications on how this regime governs.

Grabyourwallet.org shows numerous high profile companies are now taking a stand against the Trump regime’s demonization of minorities, abandonment of the middle class, and targeting of America’s most vulnerable residents. But many others, including Amazon and Overstock.com, continue to side with Trump.

The move by Bed Bath & Beyond serves as a strong reminder that the power to chart course remains in the people’s hands. As we saw with the implosion of Republicans’ healthcare repeal efforts, the resistance has already had a profound impact, yet there is still a long way to go.

Resist.
