World-famous actress Scarlett Johansson just responded to Ivanka Trump’s weak defense of her complicity in her father’s misogyny and to the First Daughter’s failure to show any genuine effort to fight for women’s rights in America.
Ivanka tried to argue that she was working behind the scenes to enact change, but Johansson wasn’t buying any of it, saying she was “so disappointed” in Ivanka at the Women in the World Summit earlier today.
“I thought to myself, ‘Well that’s empowering,” said Johansson sarcastically. “If you take a job as a public advocate, then you must advocate publicly. It’s such an old-fashioned concept that to be a powerful woman you can’t appear to be concerned [with appearances]. Screw that, it’s so old-fashioned, it’s so uninspired and actually really cowardly.”
Johansson famously played Ivanka Trump in a Saturday Night Live parody advertisement for Complicit perfume – “for the woman who could stop all of this, but won’t.”
Ivanka has stood by and said nothing while her father, a noted sexual predator himself, just yesterday defended FOX host Bill O’Reilly after it was revealed the company had paid out $13 million to silence five women who accused O’Reilly of sexual harassment and assault.
Ivanka is an enabler of her father’s misogyny and presents a toxic brand of feminism that conservatives applaud but does nothing to advance the cause of women’s empowerment in America. Whispering in Daddy’s ear doesn’t make you an activist.
