Bill Maher, host of HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher, nailed the Republican party in last night’s “New Rule” segment: “Republicans have to learn the difference between being a conservative and just being a dick.”
“So much of what they have done since Trump took over isn’t moving the party in a more conservative direction. It’s also not a liberation move. It’s just a dick move.”
That was only his jumping-off point. He then goes in to eviscerate the Trump administration and Congressional Republicans for executing decisions on which they had no mandate by American people.
Maher then touched on Republicans repealing a ban on lead bullets; the EPA’s decision to OK the use of a pesticide that is shown to impair cognitive development in children; Republican’s contempt for Michelle Obama’s effort to reform school lunches to make them healthier; Pruitt’s soft stance on asbestos; and killing Obama-era fuel efficiency standards in cars.
Maher went on to call these policies a “no-brainer, which would lead you to believe even Republicans can get it right.” So why not just leave it alone? Because, as Maher put it, “it goes against the prime directive of… being a dick.”
With Trump and his Republican shills in Congress continuing to pass and sign legislation that has no discernible effect but to harm Americans, you have to wonder if Maher isn’t far off with his “New Rule.”
It certainly seems to be the case.
