A Trump Fan Just Compared Trump To MLK And It Backfired Immediately

The Republican political caste is not very proficient at many things, like basic economics, women’s biology, climate science, and the ability to feel sympathy for others. But above all, Republicans are simply god-awful at making appropriate analogies.

Just ask Republican political strategist and CNN commentator Jeffery Lord, who just made the appalling decision to compare Donald Trump to civil rights hero Martin Luther King Jr. on – of all things – the issue of Obamacare repeal.

“Alison, I wanna say something here that will probably drive someone crazy but think of President Trump as the Martin Luther King of healthcare” says Lord, as his counterpart Symone Sanders immediately warns him to stop right there with an “Ohhhhhhhh, Jeffery.”

Jeffery, of course, ignores the warning and plunges blindly on to make one of the worst Republican comparisons you’ll ever hear. “When I was a kid, the president [Lyndon Johnson] didn’t want to introduce the civil rights bill because he did not have the votes for it. Dr. King kept putting people in the streets in harm’s way to put pressure on for the bill to be put forward.”

Sanders shook her head in disbelief before shutting him up with a righteous tirade.

“Dr. King was marching for civil rights because people that looked like me were being beaten. Basic human rights were being denied to these people merely because of the color of the skin. Let’s not equate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — a humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize winner — to the vagina-grabbing President Donald Trump.”

To compare Trump (liar, sexual predator, con-man, thief) to Martin Luther King (martyr, hero, voice of a generation) is outrageous. To make that comparison in reference to Trump’s threat to withhold federal funds from insurance companies and thus sending markets into chaos to force Democrats to negotiate over the repeal of President Obama’s healthcare law is so incredibly tone-deaf that it’s hard to understand how this man could say it with a straight face.

But of course, this is coming from the party whose White House Press Secretary just tried to whitewash Hitler in order to smear a different genocidal dictator. Republicans should lay off the analogies until they can figure out what’s going on.
